Hey!

Welcome to Ryley Writes, a collection of thoughts, stories, and work from deep in the heart of Texas.

High-Five Friday: June 23

High-Five Friday: June 23

What I'm working on:

This week I floated around the office and helped out with odd jobs — contacted some local publications about advertising for one of our missions partners, helped student ministry with some curriculum revisions, edited body copy for communications, etc. Mostly prayed for the endurance of all those involved in VBS raging outside my office door, God bless their souls.

Moving-wise, I've prepped pretty much everything I can at this point, so it's just a waiting game from here on out!

Randoms for your weekend:

  • Anne Lamott gave a TED Talk, and it was really good, of course.

  • In May, Texas Monthly ran a story series called Life on the Edge. I scooped it up immediately, then let it sit on my nightstand (usually what happens with my magazines, if I'm being honest) until just this last week. When I finally flipped to it, it absolutely took my breath away. The writing, layout, and Jay B. Sauceda's photography combined in such a powerful, beautiful way — so, so good. (Also, the rare print story that was actually a better experience in print than online! Find the actual magazine if you can.)

  • So I finally bought this Glossier ("You bought something from Glossier? That's so boujee for you." — my sister.) mask I've been wanting for a while, and it's as good as promised and just a fun little happy thing right now. This link gets you 20 percent off if you want to try it (or anything else, though I can't vouch for the other stuff) for yourself.

  • A friend showed me her friend's blog this week, and it's just super gorgeous.

  • The NBA draft started last night and here's a recap in case we run into each other because it's probably all I'll talk about.
