What I’m working on:
Same ol’ same ol’ on the social media front. Serious question for you guys, though — I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately revolving around the day-to-day of my job. Thinking about dedicating an entire blog post to that. Yay or nay? Let me know if you’re interested!
I’m also working on growing my overall advertising knowledge with an eye on assuming more responsibilities in that arena moving forward. My boss is an advertising wizard and has been incredibly patient and helpful in guiding me as I'm figuring everything out — I know I've mentioned this before, but I am so thankful for the culture of growth/education I've found in this organization. It's not often you're encouraged by your employer to take the time to learn and develop a new skill set. How cool is that? Super grateful.
On a more personal level, the first piece for Stories is well underway at this point, and I’m having so much fun with it. I’m following a family — father, mother, son and daughter — as they compete as a team in the Texas Water Safari, a 260-mile canoe ultra-race from San Marcos to the Gulf. We’ve talked their races past, their goals for this year’s, training, nutrition, the course itself, and the challenges and joys encountered along the way.
It’s been such a pleasure getting to know the family and I can’t wait to document the race itself. If there’s any particular questions you’d want answers to in a story like that, let me know!

This recent Player's Tribune article from Kevin Love is SO IMPORTANT. My family had a whole group text going about how meaningful it was and how excited we were he shared it. I hope him speaking up from his status in his field paves the way for others who would normally feel compelled to stuff their mental health struggles down.
Speaking of basketball!!! IT IS MARCH MADNESS, and ESPN produced an actually great longform piece about UMBC and their historic upset.
This American Life's recent episode "Five Women" is — I almost want to say "journalistic work of art," but it's really an artistic work of journalism. Five women share their own story and histories with the same man, who has recently been accused of sexual harrassment a la the #metoo movement. Absolutely fascinating take on one of these incidents, and one that really shows how complicated and layered and personal such situations (always?) are. FAIR WARNING: the episode contains some fairly graphic/explicit content, so be warned going in. None of it is presented in a sensationalist/entertainment-value kind of way — they are facts necessary to the stories — but it is there. If you do listen, I'd highly encourage you to follow it up with this Longform Podcast episode with Chana Joffe-Walt on the reporting and making of it. So, so interesting. Nerd moment over.
