I made a bold claim a couple posts back: That Wimberley is my favorite place in Texas.

Of course, I haven’t been to everywhere in Texas yet, so I reserve the right to change my answer. But it’s certainly a special place for me on a lot of levels.

First, hill country is just the best. It’s that tough kind of beautiful that grabs me by the heartstrings. It’s home.

Second, so much of my childhood took place there. I may have been born in Austin, but a lot of the raising took place in Wimberley.

My mom's parents had a ranch there for the entirety of my growing-up years, and I knew every inch of the place. The town was even tinier then, so we could also get away with redneck things like riding in the bed of our grandad's truck from said ranch to the local Brookshire Brothers for fried chicken. That sentence is a real thing that happened in my real life on a regular basis. Not sure what that does to my public image, but I think we've known each other long enough to get honest about our roots.

I snapped these photos on a visit to Wimberley a few weeks back, and decided that it only makes sense to start the 254 Challenge with them. One down, 253 to go.
