Internet Fun! Quarantine Edition 2
You know the drill. We are all still stuck inside. Here are some fun things to keep you busy.
Another great essay-style piece from Sidetracked Magazine (with beautiful photography, as always).
This video of Michaela Kiersch sending Necessary Evil a couple years ago is an incredible climb, for sure — the skipped clip at the end is legendary — but her discussion of the mental side of the climb and her thought process throughout was so interesting to me. Even though I climb at a (much, haha) lower level than she does, I related to her mentality and it gave me some ideas for habits to break in my own climbing — making falling “part of my sequence,” for example.
Loved this AndShesDopeToo mini-doc about a Nepali mountain biking girl gang.
The Atlantic is doing a photography series called Fifty, where they gather incredible photographs from all fifty states in America and present them as state-by-state photo essays. (If you don’t subscribe to the Atlantic you’ll be stuck behind their five-stories-per-month paywall, so choose which five states you check out wisely! 10/10 would suggest making Utah one of your picks though.)
Speaking of Utah and amazing photography, Google put together gorgeous virtual reality tours of five national parks, including Bryce Canyon! Go go go.
Have you been listening to Drew and Ellie Holcomb’s kitchen covers? Literally my favorite form of their music.
“In the end, wonder is still a pretty good reason for a big adventure, I think.”
This isn’t new, but for some reason I can’t stop listening to this album during all of this quarantine business. Really comforting for some reason I can’t put my finger on.
I had never watched Rampage, a classic 90s climbing film, until Reel Rock posted it on YouTube for free last week. But now I have watched it three times.
Tim Duncan was officially named to the NBA Hall of Fame, so the Spurs released this highlight video, and I cried.
This skier made a home stop-motion skiing film and are you kidding me people are so great.
My gurl Sara Davis Regan has an album coming out May 1 and has started releasing singles from it… subscribe to her newsletter and get one, check Spotify for the other. It’s such good stuff; and knowing her and the heart and stories behind so many of the songs makes it all the sweeter. Sara produced the entirety of this album from her little apartment in Katy — the most unlikely of places for an artist like her to thrive, and reason one million and one I am so incredibly grateful that she is here. Being her friend in this season has given me hope that I can still be myself and create beauty in a place that it doesn’t make sense to. (Also! Got to take some new photos for her for some projects related to the release, and I’m just super itching to share all of those once the album is out. Eeeeek.)
Did everybody else already know about the Outlandish podcast? I just discovered it a couple weeks ago and love the episodes I’ve listened to so far!
I have a few more, but I’m going to save those for edition three! Felt like I had enough here for this one — happy watching/listening/reading. And pass along your own picks to me!
