What I'm working on:
It's a mixed bag this week, but mostly, I'm waiting to hear back from the Comforter's Center on final adjustments to their graphics package. I put a preview of the updates so far on my Instagram story yesterday:
I'll admit, I didn't love this package. I sent the center two business card mock-ups initially (I included low-res images of both of them here so you guys would have an idea) and planned to base the entire package around the design they preferred.
The first was basics-only — very functional, simple, and brightened by a singular pattern comprised of non-politically-affiliated colors, which was important. It worked, but there was nothing — for lack of a better word — really cool about it. You feel me? No one was going to look at it and be like, dang, what a spectacular graphic design piece! And that's kind of what I secretly wanted.
The second option I offered was still functional and simple, but I really preferred the look of it. I planned to create a watercolor vector from colors in the photo and use that on the back of the card and the other pieces in the package. It's not like it was that much different, at the end of the day, but it was more my personal taste, and I assumed that the center would agree.
As it turns out, they didn't. Justine wasn't concerned about how cool or design-y the package was. She just wanted to make the information clear, cute, and easily printable. She preferred the first design, and at the end of the day, my job isn't to push my taste on clients — it's to make them something that suits theirs!
As I've laid out the pieces and made adjustments, I've definitely warmed up to the package. It may not break any design ground, but it's hopefully going to get more women through the doors of the Comforter's Center, and that's the whole point. Pumped to get it wrapped up and to them for printing.

- I just finished reading Called Again, Jennifer Pharr Davis' account of setting the Appalachian Trail speed record in 2011. So when I spotted Finding Traction — a low-budget documentary about ultrarunner Nikki Kimball trying to set the Long Trail speed record — on Netflix last night, I decided to stick with the theme and watch it. It was interesting and inspiring. Not like, "man, now I want to go run 273 miles through Vermont!" inspiring, but you know. A general kind of inspiring.
